54th REUNION Jackson

October 8, 2016 was the Pirate gathering in Jackson, California.  Friday night a few of us arrived and stayed at the National Hotel in Jackson.  It was the favorite hotel of John Wayne and evidently it has a ghost .  It has been in operation since 1863 when many came through the old west for the gold rush.   It has a Victorian decor with modern amenities.  It also has a bar and a restaurant for our gatherings.  Jackson has authentic charm with lots of shops and things to do.

The first night we went to an Italian place called Teresa's Restaurant.  We took two cars as it was a little ways up the hill.  It was a lovely place and we had a good time visiting.  The next day some of us went to the Kennedy Gold Mine and some went wine tasting in the next little town.  .The Kennedy Gold Mine was very informative and set in a beautiful little valley.  It was amazing to learn how much it took to get little flakes of gold.  They crushed many rocks and were many miles in lots of tunnels underground. There is a great bookstore in town and the entire upstairs is decorated like in Sherlock Holmes era.  There are shops and everything is decorated as such.  They have a hidden room that shows Sherlock and Watson's office and their future bedroom.  There is also a cat that lives upstairs and has many secret ways to get into the shops.  It is the Hein Bookstore in Jackson and I highly recommend it.

That night we gathered in the "Naughty Room" at the Hotel.  It wasn't really naughty but the walls were full of naked lady paintings.  It was a narrow room and they set it up just for us. (I think there were about 24.)  We had a lovely visit and great food.

Another goodbye and we went to a good breakfast place suggested by Judy Gillio Huckaby who lives in the area.  I am glad we have had these adventures.  Now the next adventure is a cruise to see the fall colors.
