51st REUNION San Simeon
Well, the Pirates landed at Hearst Castle in San Simeon, California on Saturday, October 12, 2013. I was a little nervous about the adventure, but as it turns out, I think we had a good time. Of course we picked the Columbus Day Holiday, which is usually ok, but it happened to be a big celebration in Cambria with the Scarecrow Festival. Every store and building in Cambria was decorated with handmade scarecrows. Evidently people come from all over to visit during this weekend. Some of us arrived on Friday, October 11th. Some of us had dinner in Cambria and others just wanted to hangout at the bar with the Elvis Impersonator and Karaoke fun. Saturday was a beautiful day on the central coast. Cambria is full of cute shops and antique stores. The beach is steps away and the sun was shining. There were about 16 of us on the Night Tour at Hearst Castle. The best part of the night tour is there are people who play the parts of the guests and staff. There were maids ironing dresses in the rooms of the guests. Some of the ladies were gathered, doing their nails and gossiping. There were staff members in the kitchen preparing the meals for their guests. There were also people lounging about the outside pool. Hearst Castle is one of those places where I would like to be free to look closer at the paintings and the books and the secret hidden staircases. We all had a good time.
On Sunday we met up at Linn's Restaurant in Cambria for a farewell breakfast. Another glorius day and we enjoyed being together. Well until our next adventure: October 2014 Fort Bragg, California
