53rd REUNION Solvang

The Pirates invaded the Danish settlement of Solvang, California on Saturday, October 10, 2015.  As in the past, some of us arrived on the Friday night.  Solvang is a fun town full of shops and eating establishments all, with a Danish flavor.  There are many wineries around the area and the Chumash Casino is nearby.

There was a fire pit outside our room and those that were there, joined us in a relaxing feet up kind of place.  On Saturday, many of us visited the town and I suggested that we all go have Aebleskivers for breakfast.  They are round pancakes made in a special pan.  They were delicious as usual.  I also suggested we go visit La Purisima Mission that is fairly close.  It wasn't 10 minutes away and I got royally teased for leading people astray.  The Mission was beautiful.  It is the most completed in the Mission system.  (Ok, I admit it was about a half hour away on a lovely country road.)

The big event was our dinner at AJ Spurs in Buelton, CA.  This restaurant was in the movie Sideways.  Gregg Welsh joined us from Santa Barabara and we had a fabulous dinner and visiting time.    Our farewell breakfast was also in Buelton and was a great place suggested by Gregg.  Saying goodbye is always kind of sad.  Our little traveling group has been together every year and we look forward to our excursions.  The next visit will be in Jackson, California in 2016.
