55th REUNION NY & Cruise
55th REUNION - NY AND CRUISE TO SEE FALL COLORS:
This was a wonderful reunion. It was decided to take a cruise to see the Fall Colors on the East Coast. AAA offers wonderful tours and it was suggested that we take a 3 day tour of New York before our cruise. There were about 15 of us that did the tour first. We stayed at the Sheraton at Times Square. The first day we had 7am breakfast at Lindys and then met Tony our tour guide. At 8:45 am we rode Metro 15 stops to Battery Park. We took a ferry to Liberty Island for a tour and then another ferry to Ellis Island for a tour. We then took a ferry back to Battery Park and walked to the 9/11 Memorial. That was a wonderful tour and I was fine until we came upon that Firetruck that was in a lot of our news feeds. I then had a hard time keeping it together. They did a very good job with the memorial. I think everyone should see it. We should never forget!
Tony met us after that tour with Hop On, Hop Off tickets to take us back to the hotel. We gathered for another local dinner that night.
Breakfast at Lindys and some took bus tour around NY and were to meet at “The Top Of The Rock” but we had no reservations and didn’t know we needed them. A couple of us walked around Rockefeller Center to look at a Ferrari Car Show and they had just put in the Ice rink so there was lots to see.
Part of the tour that night was dinner and a Broadway show. Langans an Irish Restaurant was our destination. It was great food and fun to be together dressed up. We walked to the Sondheim Theater and saw “Beautiful – Carol King Story”. SO GOOD!!! We took a group picture and then walked back to the hotel. Time Square was alive and crowded. There were police and K9 dogs and Secret Service everywhere. Someone important was invited to a wedding at our hotel.
The next day we were bussed to the Brooklyn Pier for our 7 day cruise. There were 21 on the cruise. We sailed to Newport, Rhode Island, Boston, Massachusetts, Bar Harbor, Maine, St. John, New Brunswick, Canada, Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada and then back to New York. Every day we had our choice of tours at each stop or just stay on board our ship. Evenings we had set tables and were able to share our adventures. Roger and I had a lovely dinner one night at one of the restaurants to celebrate our anniversary. All and all it was a great experience and one I hope we can try again. The fall colors was a bit of a miss. It was a little early. There were some here and there that were beautiful.
November 11, 2017 EXTRA REUNION PARTY Pleasanton:
Jeanie Reitzell offered her property complex party room and about 60 classmates came. It was held from 4-9pm and everyone brought an appetizer or drink. Jeanie Ewell Reitzell, Judy Gillio Huckaby and Penny Vlahos Jackman decorated the room and we had a blast. We had music, we had food, we had drink and we had a great time.
