59th REUNION Sonora

Since we did not gather in 2020 due to the Covid Pandemic, it was great to meet up for our yearly get-together in 2021.  Sonora was the location with a cute historic town and great prices.  I made arrangements at the GUNN Hotel, right downtown. It was a 100 year old hotel and showed its age.  It was a bit scary for those of us that don’t like stairs.  This was not the best place for senior citizens but our great pirates plunged ahead and had a good time anyway.  I still apologize to the class and promise to inspect the hotel better in the future.

Wednesday night we went to a restaurant that Judy Gillio Huckaby recommended.  She said she likes to support this restaurant because they were very good to the firemen fighting the big fires.  They fed them and took real good care of them.  I decided we would support them because of that reason. The restaurant is called “The Peppery”.  It was great.  There was also a group of eight classmates that came up but stayed in a vacation home and they joined with us for dinner.  It was nice to visit with them as well.

The next day we gathered at breakfast which was up a steep staircase with no elevator.  Some of the ladies wanted to go to a fabric store and some just walked uptown to see the local businesses.  Some of the guys walked to a veteran’s building and around the town.  When we returned we gathered in a garden by a swimming pool.  We can still have a good laugh.  Dinner that night was a car ride to “ Gus’ Steakhouse.” I had called late to tell them how many but they were wonderful and squeezed us all together.  The food was great.  It is highly recommended if you are ever in Sonora.

On to the next reunion, our 60th.  Who can believe that?  Stay safe and be happy.  Cd
