63rd REUNION San Leandro
Oh Pirates...they keep getting better and better. The 63rd Reunion took us to San Leandro. We started the festivities on October 9, 2025 at Harry's Hofbrau at the corner of E.14th St. and Bancroft Ave. We were able to gather and have lunch at 1:30 pm until it was time to get to the High School. We were to meet on the front steps at 3:45 to 4:00 p.m. after school let out and we were going to meet a Campus Supervisor and take a group picture. Well we arrived and there was no Campus Supervisor and no answer to the bell at the front door. I think that was the one thing that really shook me up. You can't enter the high school anywhere without a key. It is locked down tight. So our hero Ron Harkov managed to get the attention of a girl sitting inside. She let him in and she then knew how to let him into the main hallway. He walked down to the Principal's Office, (see picture of Ron and the Principal) and managed to get us a Campus Supervisor by the name of Alejandro Morales. I had one of the students who was sitting on the front steps take a group picture of us and then we were led around the high school. It was so AMAZING. The kids of today who are attending SLHS are given so many opportunities. Annie Miller took pictures and videos of many of the programs. We were in awe taking our tour and listening to our guide tell us about all of the programs. There are 3000 students attending and the new gym can hold them all at one time. There are four academies available to students. The Business and Finance is a 3 year program and they run the student store. The SLAM Academy is a 3 year digital media program. The Social Justice Academy is for 10-12th graders studying social, political and environment change. The STREAM Academy is for 10-12th graders and includes science, technology robotics, engineering, arts and math. There are also new shops for wood, auto and metal. There are theater arts and music programs as well. So many great things are happening at SLHS. We toured the gym and all of the attached rooms for the different sports including meeting rooms, etc. We toured the new Theater. It was a huge room with plush seats and everything possible for the stage area. Our Campus Supervisor was very knowledgeable and opened every door for us. What a wonderful day.
The next day we met at Elios Restaurant for breakfast and then the big surprise was a Van ride around San Leandro. Hey Bob, we even went up View Drive...sorry you missed it. Thank you Craig Miller for organizing the day. We had a lot of fun moments and it was great reminiscing our past carefree days. And as we headed back to the Elios parking lot, imagine this....they want to meet again next year!
